Integration in the warehouse: when AMRs and Gates speak the same language

3PL operator in the FMCG segment, May, 2025
How to ensure effective and safe interaction between autonomous mobile robots and warehouse infrastructure?
In the demonstration video, you can see:

  • AMR’s request to open the gate
  • Automatic response from DoorHan
  • Robot passing through
  • Flow control and closing timing
  • Simultaneous interaction with multiple devices
With the advancement of automation in warehouse logistics, the need for seamless integration between robotic systems and elements of the physical infrastructure is growing - especially in environments with strict temperature control requirements, such as in cold chain operations.
Our company offers an effective solution—intelligent integration of AMRs (Autonomous Mobile Robots) with automatic industrial doors in a cold storage facility.
A key component of the system is MPI WES (Warehouse Execution System) - a software platform that manages logistics flows and the interaction of devices within the warehouse.

How Does It Work?

The MPI WES system ensures full coordination between the AMR and the doors:

  • As the robot approaches the door, it sends a request to pass through.
  • MPI WES sends a command to the DoorHan controller to open the door.
  • Once the AMR passes through, the door closes automatically.
  • If multiple robots are approaching the door, the system keeps it open until the last one has passed, avoiding delays and unnecessary opening/closing cycles.
Why Is This Important?

The integration is designed with the specific requirements of cold storage facilities in mind, where it is critical to:

  • Minimize heat loss by reducing door open time.
  • Prevent congestion and bottlenecks at the doors, which can disrupt the logistics flow.
  • Ensure synchronization of all components - robots, doors, sensors, and control systems.
Key advantages of the solution:

  • Intelligent AMR queue management
  • Automatic synchronization with DoorHan gate controller
  • Maintaining temperature control in cold zones
  • Flexible integration with various warehouse systems
  • Increased overall efficiency of logistics processes
Flexibility and scalability
One of the main advantages of MPI WES is its modularity and scalability. The system easily adapts to the existing warehouse infrastructure, integrates with fleets of AMRs from various manufacturers, and is capable of operating in both standard and specialized warehouse environments.
